In June 2012, the Nihon Ki-in made a five-year agreement regarding the advancement of computer Go with the University of Electro-Communications (national university corporation), and decided to hold official regular competitions (Densei-sen) between professional players and computer Go programs and measure the level of computer Go programs. This event is the fourth competition of the project based on this collaboration.
