Tournament Regulations | The 18th UEC Cup

1. Tournament Format and Ranking

The tournament consists of a preliminary round on Day 1 and a final round on Day 2.
On Day 1, all programs participate in the preliminary round, and the top 16 teams advance to the final round on Day 2. Pairings use a modified Swiss system through Round 6 and a standard Swiss system for Round 7. The number of rounds may change depending on the number of teams.
If the number of programs is odd, an invited program such as GNU Go may be added.
Draws count as 0.5 win and 0.5 loss. Preliminary rankings are determined in this order:
1. Higher number of wins.
2. Higher Solkoff score, the sum of all opponents' scores.
3. Higher Sonneborn–Berger score, the sum of the scores of defeated opponents.
4. Among teams still tied after items i–iii, higher DB score, defined as wins minus losses in games among the tied teams.
5. Drawing lots.
On Day 2, teams ranked 1st–8th enter League A and teams ranked 9th–16th enter League B. Final standings are determined by round-robin play. If fewer than 16 teams participate, only League A may be held.
Final rankings are determined in this order:
1. Higher number of wins.
2. Higher Solkoff score.
3. Higher Sonneborn–Berger score.
4. Among teams still tied after items i–iii, higher DB score in games among the tied teams.
5. Higher preliminary-round ranking.

Both players must promptly submit an online game-result form after every game. Detailed instructions will be provided separately.

A participant who withdraws must notify the tournament office as early as possible.
A participant absent at the preliminary registration deadline without prior notice is regarded as having forfeited. The organizer may issue a warning or restrict future participation. If prior notice is received, the Tournament Director determines the measure according to the circumstances.
During the final round, a participant absent at the designated assembly time without notice is regarded as late, and the remaining time may be reduced by the length of the delay. For unavoidable circumstances, the Tournament Director determines the measure. Absence or substantial delay without notice may result in sanctions.
