The 14th Computer Go UEC Cup

Outline

Purpose

Almost five years have passed since AlphaGo defeated the then world champion Ke Jie 9-dan. AlphaGo has continued to evolve with AlphaZero and MuZero, and other Go AIs are steadily getting stronger year by year as if following in their footsteps. The stronger Go AIs are not only used by professional Go players for learning partner, but are also used by amateur players as opponents with adjusted strength and as supplementary commentaries, and have established a firm position in the Go world.

In this tournament, which has resumed in 2019, new programs emerge one after another every year, and while their capabilities are undoubtedly at the highest level in the world, they are far from being able to elucidate the profound game of Go.As this shows, Go has been a game of endless interest. For further progress in Go AI, we need the next new technology. The Go AI has been a valuable benchmark for AI technology in this sense, and will continue to provide important themes for the future. That is also the reason why we have resumed the tournament.

This tournament has established itself as a competition for the world's strongest Go AI. It is one of the objectives of this tournament to bring together the wisdom of mankind to tackle this difficult subject. We also believe that it is a noble principle of this tournament to contribute to the development of this field by disclosing the technology as much as possible. We hope that all participants will understand the purpose of this tournament and make it an enjoyable and meaningful event, valuing interactions among participants in order to contribute to the development of AI technology.
